Your dock sees a lot - waves, wakes, wild weather, and not to mention, weekend warriors. Just like any well-used (and well-loved) piece of equipment, it needs a little attention every now and then. Spotting damage early is the difference between a quick fix and a full replacement (aka the difference between a long weekend on the water... and one stuck on the shore).
Here is how to spot and stop dock damage early, and keep your dock going strong:
Wobbly Sections or Movement Where There Shouldn't Be
If your dock feels more like a carnival bounce house floor than a sturdy platform, something is off.
What to check:
Loose Hardware or Bolts
Shifting Legs or Floats
Sagging connections between sections
What to do:
Tighten everything up and replace any worn hardware. If the movement is persistent, it could be an issue with anchoring or structural wear - time to delve deeper and call the pros (that's us!).
Keep Materials in Top Shape
Well-built docks are made to handle the elements, but even the best of the best benefit from a little seasonal TLC.
What to check:
Small areas of wear on high traffic spots
Natural expansion or slight shifts in wood or poly materials over time
Hardware or trim that may need tightening after a busy season
What to do:
A quick seasonal check can help you keep your dock looking and performing like new. If your dock was built a few years ago by someone else and is showing signs of aging - or if you are noticing uneven wear - it might be time to consider an upgrade that is built for the long haul.
Damaged Bumper or Missing Protection
Your bumper is your buffer - and without it, your boat and your dock are on their own.
Watch Out For:
Torn, cracked, or missing sections of bumper
Loose fasteners or areas where the bumper is not flush with the frame
Fix it fast: Replacing bumper is one of the easiest upgrades to protect your investment. It is like adding fenders to your car - better safe than sorry.
Waterlogged Floats or Uneven Height
If your dock looks like it is leaning into retirement, it might be time to inspect the floatation.
What to look for:
Sections sitting lower than usual
Visible defects to flotation such as punctures or cracks
Next step: Replace any compromised floats and ensure all sections are sitting level. A dip in your dock goes further than just aesthetics - it can lead to strain on joints or faster wear over time. If you're noticing any of the above, it is time to give us a call. We've got the parts, tools, and team to get it all sorted and keep your dock floating happy.
Before You Dive In...
A little time spent checking over your dock now can save you a whole lot of hassle (and dollars) down the road. Whether it is a quick fix or a bigger job, don't wait until you are hauling coolers down only to find an issue you would rather not have to deal with on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Your dock works hard - let's make sure that it is ready for another season of cannonballs, coffee on the water and whatever else your summer has in store.
